I had to produce two illustrations based on newspaper clippings for my image making module in university- we were allowed to use any technique or medium we liked- and since I want to be an illustrator/concept artist down the line I used digital painting.
This one is based on an article about womens roles on the frontlines of battlefields- ie that they generally dont have one- for numerous reasons they are usually kept away from the fighting, instead filling roles in the Navy, Air Force or supporting the frontline troops from the rear.
The illustration is supposed to convey the womans stoicism but thinly veiled anger that she is left behind whilst the men set off on an operation.
The second illustration was copied froma photograph and is a portrait of the actor Liam Neeson.
